Glasswool vs Polyester

Glasswool vs Polyester

The age old question – which is better.

Glasswool

  • Manufactured from recycled glass which is derived from natural mineral such as sand.
  • Its non combustible  and wont catch fire like other insulation materials
  • Bio-soluble posing little or no risk to health
  • Very cost effective – compared to other insulation materials
  • Vermin resistant
  • Easy to install and cut, soft to touch
  • Naturally a good acoustic barrier

Polyester

  • Manufactured using 100% polyester fibres made from plastic bottles
  • Soft to touch, and can be torn across the width
  • Does not absorb moisture – very good for coastal or exposed areas such as underfloors
  • Vermin resistant
  • Good for those who have serious dust allergies

Both have its their merits, don’t be fooled by the some companies saying Glasswool is ichy because a lot has changed over the years so ask yourself “how many times have you jumped in the ceiling naked and rolled in the insulation” in other words insulation is about helping to keep your home warm in the winter and cooler in the summer.  Glasswool is a real value for money solution, but isnt recommended for exposed underfloors with high moisture, we would recommend Polyester in these areas.
