The Journey Towards Performance and Sustainability

At Premier Insulation, we know that high-performance insulation is only part of the story. We know that as a manufacturer and importer/distributor we have additional responsibility to ensure we understand the environmental impacts of our products and activities, and we make open and honest commitments to a sustainable future.

While we’re still early on in our sustainability journey, we’ve taken some meaningful steps, including gaining certification through Eco Choice Aotearoa for a large portion of our range.

What Is Eco Choice Aotearoa?

Eco Choice Aotearoa is New Zealand’s only Type I ecolabel, an internationally recognised mark that sets a high bar for environmental standards across the full lifecycle of a product.

As expectations rise across the building industry, certifications like Eco Choice offer a clear, credible way to compare products and make more sustainable choices.

What It Takes to Be Certified

Earning this certification required us to take a closer look at how we operate and where we could do better.

  • Material Sourcing – Greater transparency around where and how our fibres are sourced
  • Manufacturing Practices – Improvements in energy use, emissions, and waste
  • Packaging Considerations – Minimising landfill impact post-installation
  • Product Performance – Meeting expectations for longevity and durability
  • Chemical Transparency – Our 100% Polyester Range is already Red List Free through the Declare programme
  • Circular Thinking – Considering take-back systems and recyclability options

While this doesn’t mean we’ve got it all figured out, it’s a good start, and we’re committed to continuing the work.

Support for Green Building Projects

Our Eco Choice Aotearoa certification is officially recognised by the New Zealand Green Building Council (NZGBC) and supports smoother pathways for Green Star, Homestar, and Living Building Challenge projects.

Alongside our Declare certification, it makes specifying more sustainable insulation easier and reduces documentation load during project planning.

Why It Matters

Choosing certified products helps ensure that buildings not only meet performance targets, but also align with broader sustainability goals, supporting healthier environments and more responsible material use.

We’re proud of the steps we’ve taken so far, and we’re motivated to keep improving.
