Our safe and friendly 100% Polyester Insulation is proudly manufactured in our production and warehousing facility in Ngaruawahia, and our Glasswool Insulation range is imported from our longstanding supply partner in Taiwan. We also operate a bulk-store and distribution centre in Christchurch.

We distribute our brand of Premier insulation through a nationwide network of independent Premier Insulation branches, specialising in thermal and acoustic solutions for residential and commercial buildings.

High Performance Double-Layer Ceiling Insulation

Advantages of high-performance double-layering

  • Double-layer installs offer better performance and flexibility for designers.
  • Significantly reduces thermal bridging
  • Reduces loss of performance from gaps left at install of single-layer installations
  •  Allows flexibility to go beyond NZBC minimums
  • Specified correctly, will deliver long-term performance and durability
  • 50 year warranty when professionally installed by our Premier Insulation installers

To achieve higher construction R-Values with Polyester insulation, we recommend a double-layer install. Our 100% Polyester ranges are thermally bonded to create the structure of the insulation and are therefore incredibly durable and resistant to slumping and sagging. All our 100% Polyester ranges can be mixed and matched for double-layering, and to achieve the most efficient thermal performance for the building.

Ideally the bottom layer of any double-layer install should match the thickness of the truss bottom chord.  Where this is not practical, the bottom layer of polyester insulation should be the highest density of the two layers.  The top layer should be installed covering the truss chords, and tightly fitted around truss members to ensure complete coverage.  Joins between the layers are to be off-set to ensure no gaps and reduce thermal bridging.

Example Specification

Insulation:  Premier 100% Polyester double-layer install: total insulation R-Value: R7.2 at 280mm

Bottom Layer: Premier 100% Polyester R3.6 140mm.  Install with friction fit between the trusses with no gaps.
Top Layer: Premier 100% Polyester R3.6 140mm installed covering the truss chords, and tightly fitted around truss members to ensure complete coverage.  Joins between the layers are to be off-set to ensure no gaps and reduce thermal bridging.

Interior Secondary Insulating Layer (ISIL)
Higher thermal performance can also be achieved by insulating the cavity created by the ceiling battens, referred to as ‘Interior Secondary Insulating Layer (ISIL)’

This will add extra thermal performance and help to reduce thermal bridging.

Ceiling Services:
Electrical wiring, plumbing, and ducting should ideally be specified to be raised and supported above the insulation. The use of commercial cable trays is a great solution.  This will protect the insulation and thermal envelope, and allow easy servicing in the future.

Design Considerations & Managing Moisture
We recommend careful consideration is given to proactively managing moisture in highly insulated construction.  Significant amounts of insulation can affect a buildings ability to breathe, which can lead to condensation, and mould.  We recommend Designers consider balanced mechanical ventilation.
