Our team of insulation experts can provide H1 calculations and H1 Modeling to ensure your project meets the building code’s H1 Energy Efficiency clause. Since each house and commercial building has unique requirements based on size, design, and location, we can collaborate with you to achieve optimal results.

We understand that the changes to the Building Code clause H1 may seem overwhelming, but Premier Insulation is here to help you navigate the new requirements.

Damp and poorly ventilated homes can have a significant impact on the health of New Zealanders. To address this, new buildings will require additional insulation in the walls, floors, and ceilings from May 1, 2023.

Meeting these new standards will likely require changes to building design, which will vary depending on site requirements and building design. Traditional Glasswool insulation materials can offer the R-Values required to meet the new standards as a single-layer, while Polyester materials will require a double-layer install.

To support these new requirements, the BRANZ House Insulation Guide has been updated. This guide is the industry’s go-to resource for verifying the insulation material R-Value required in walls, roofs, and floors to meet Construction R-Values for various designs and demonstrate compliance. Design options to Meet New Standards

Building design will very likely need to change to meet the new standards. How much, will depend on the site requirements and building design.

Traditional Glasswool insulation materials can offer the Ceiling insulation R-Values required to meet the new standards as a single-layer.  Polyester materials will require a double-layer install.

The thickness of insulation needs to be considered at the initial design stage.

This is the industry’s “bible” for verifying the Insulation material R-Value required in walls, roofs, and floors to meet the Construction R-Values of various designs and to demonstrate compliance.

Double-Layer vs Single Layer

Single-layer ceiling insulation is the simplest means for compliance to the new standard.  Premier offers a R7.3 (275mm) glasswool insulation which is BRANZ Appraised and in stock.  This is also the ‘thinnest’ insulation solution for the new standards.

Double-layer installs may offer better performance and flexibility for designers. Specification of double-layer insulation is very important as some loftier products will crush with a second layer on top, and create undesirable gaps.

Premier Features & Benefits

Premier Insulation offers a complete range of insulation solutions to meet your requirements under the new H1 clause.

R-values reaching as high as R7.3 are specifically crafted to help maintain indoor temperatures above 18°C, aligning with the World Health Organisation’s guidelines for healthy living environments. Moreover, these elevated R-values can contribute to a significant reduction of up to 40 percent in energy consumption for heating, resulting in various benefits such as improved well-being and increased energy savings for residents in New Zealand.

Our Premier 100% Polyester are manufactured locally in Ngaruawahia, Waikato with New Zealand conditions in mind up to R4.0. Our Glasswool is imported from our longstanding partner in Taiwan since 1996 with a full solution range up to R7.3.

Our products have received BRANZ Appraisal  – Appraisal No. 1098 [2019], Appraisal No. 1097 [2019], Appraisal No. 509 [2019] and Eco Choice Aotearoa (Formerly Environmental Choice NZ).
